Accounts Assistant, Full-time (Maternity Cover – 9 Months)

Andertons Music Co is a very successful retail and e-commerce business specialising in contemporary music instruments. Established in 1964, the business is an industry leader and has won several awards. We have a large retail outlet in Guildford (where our offices are based) and a highly successful website. We have continued to grow over the past decade and currently have a staff of over 100.

The finance function is a small team, currently a Finance Manager, Finance Assistant (CIMA qualified) and an Accounts Assistant (AAT qualified).

We are looking for a full-time Accounts Assistant for 9 months maternity cover with an immediate start. The position will work closely with and report into the Finance Manager and will also work closely with colleagues across the business at all levels.

Core Responsibilities

The role will focus on Purchase Ledger, processing a large volume of invoices each day (between 100-150 per day) and ensuring all invoices are paid within agreed terms with any invoicing queries being raised/resolved promptly. A major driver in this industry is ensuring supplier settlement discounts are always taken so the efficient processing of invoices is essential, as payment terms with certain key suppliers can often be between 7-10 days from the invoice date.

The Accounts Assistant will also learn all aspects and functions of the accounts department, including daily cashing-up procedures, bank reconciliations, supplier BACS payment runs, petty cash, etc and work closely with colleagues in the department to allow a seamless, high quality service to the business during holidays and busy trading periods.

Required Skills & Qualities

  • Working knowledge of all aspects of Purchase Ledger – 2-3 years relevant previous experience in a similar high-volume environment is essential.
  • Attention to detail, careful, accurate, dependable, open-minded, flexible and able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Confidence in communicating with colleagues and external suppliers by email and telephone.
  • High level of IT literacy, including Microsoft Excel, is a key requirement to be successful in this position, as is experience of using standard computerised accounts packages. We currently use Access Dimensions.
