Reporting to the Head of Technology with day-to-day management from our Web Development Manager, you will join a core team of 4 cross-functional technical experts. This includes one other full stack web developer, a development manager with DevOps experience, a UI developer with strong CSS skills, and a technical assistant. The wider digital team (a total of 18 people) includes graphic designers and ecommerce marketeers with decades of combined experience in ecommerce and digital.

Andertons is currently working on two exciting web development projects that will both reach audiences of hundreds of thousands of people.
Firstly, we are “going headless” with andertons.co.uk: our main ecommerce retail site. We are building a new site with a modern redesign on an isomorphic (hybrid server & client-side rendered) React/Node stack, integrating it with IBM Websphere Commerce via an API Management layer, and deploying the solution using Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform. Once delivered, the internal team will have more control than ever to make the Andertons site a delightful and exciting ecommerce experience for our many customers.
Secondly, you will be developing an ambitious new service called Andertons Extra. Extra is a bespoke subscription and loyalty platform that gives subscribers benefits such as exclusive videos and shipping discounts. Unlike anything that our competitors have done, this exciting project is an exclusive club for fans of the Andertons brand to get even more out of their relationship with Andertons. We are currently preparing for a beta launch, but once live, there is a long backlog of ideas to make Extra even more… extra!
With two significant projects, plus other bespoke I.T. properties to manage like our online blog and job sites, and internal business tools – we now need extra development resource to deliver all these projects!
As well as adding development capacity to our internal team, we are also seeking a person who has strong interpersonal skills and experience of working in Agile development teams. As a middleweight developer with prior experience, the team will value your ideas about process and code quality improvements, so you should bring these into your day-to-day work and apply them to make a difference to the team, as well as the websites you’re working on.

This is a full time position and your primary place of work will be our new office in GU1 post-covid, but we can offer flexibility around hours and partial working from home.
